Saatchis
swoop for Fairy Art
NECTAR
AND VENOM, the debut exhibition of art by The Good Fairy, was the scene
of near riots as top ad brothers Paul and Derek Satchel tried to buy up
the lot to place in their swanky West London gallery, The Big Empty White
Box.
"It’s
bloody well not going there," said the Good Fairy quietly as she raked
in the cash.
The
stunning exhibition has split the art world and divided the world of art,
but ordinary folk loved it (see What the People Say).
Residents
in N16 had tried to block the exhibition, which ran from 11 to 24 September,
when it emerged that a whole new arts complex would be built.
"There’s
been an unimaginable amount of Lottery money going into Hackney," said
Diego Brown from a donkey sanctuary on the South coast. "We were lucky
enough to get hold of some and get ‘GuggN16’ built in just under two days.
It took the pharoahs most of their summer holidays to build the pyramids
and they had cheap seasonal workers coming from Central America to help.
It just goes to show what you can do if you really try."
There
were harsh words from Sunday Telegraff art critic Brown Sewer (right), who
said: "If my friend Gerald had done this on the carpet I would have
sauteed him in garlic butter. I don’t really like art anyway, I just like
going on the radio and sounding like a toff."
